Root Chakra
Muladhara

"You cannot rise if you do not first arrive fully in the body."
-WickedThe Foundation of the Physical Body
This chakra is your foundation in the physical world. A balanced Root Chakra gives you a solid base that supports the opening of the higher chakras. It governs stability in life through basic needs: food, water, shelter, safety, and emotional security.
Your sense of safety often has less to do with your current life and more to do with how you were formed. Caregivers are our first point of contact in this realm. When needs were met consistently, the nervous system learns trust and we tend to operate as secure adults. When needs were dismissed or unpredictably met, we are more prone to insecurity, hypervigilance, and instability.
When the Root Chakra is imbalanced, the system defaults to survival mode. Energy cannot rise cleanly because it is busy protecting the base.

Influence
This is a chakra of matter and material reality. It governs stability, structure, and the instinct to remain alive.
Signs of a Balanced Root Chakra
Safety, stability, vitality, security, general positivity, strong immune system, good physical health, enjoyment in physical fitness, and an overall sense of feeling grounded.
Signs of an Imbalanced Root Chakra
Anxiety, fear, nightmares, sleep paralysis, panic attacks, low vibrations, instability, low energy, lethargy, difficulty focusing, cravings and addictions, eating disorders, bladder or colon issues, lower back, leg, or feet problems, constipation, and sciatica.
Signs of an Underactive Root Chakra
Feeling ungrounded or unreal, dissociation, chronic indecision, difficulty maintaining routines, avoidance of responsibility, and a constant sense of not belonging. The system struggles to anchor in the body, and life can feel unstable even when circumstances are calm.
Signs of an Overactive Root Chakra
Panic, fear, territorial behavior, feeling threatened, aggressive survival mode, rigidity, control patterns, and fixation on material security. The system grips instead of trusting.
How the Root Chakra Gets Blocked
Fear and trauma: any experience that threatens one's safety. This includes instability in the home, neglect, unpredictable caregiving, financial insecurity, chronic stress, and environments that train the nervous system to stay on guard.
How to Clear, Open, Balance the Root Chakra
Meditation, grounding practices, and nervous system stability. Root Chakra healing is built through consistency: sleep, meals, movement, hydration, and dependable daily structure.
Color therapy: eating red foods, meditating on the color red, and wearing red clothing or jewelry.
Embodiment practices help the Root Chakra most: strength based movement, walking, time in nature, breath awareness in the lower body, and repetitive rituals that teach the system it is held.
